RACE 2 SQUIB SKYBIRD SERIES 2026

Upcoming Race 2 – Sunday, 24 May 2026
Neap tide conditions are expected after the challenging opening race.
Following the demanding conditions experienced during the opening Skybird Squib Series race, sailors will be looking forward to more manageable conditions for Race 2 on Sunday, 24 May 2026.
The previous race saw an exceptionally strong tidal current dominate proceedings, particularly during the second race, where the flooding tide ultimately forced the Race Officer (RO) to abandon racing. Several boats struggled to make headway against the current despite tactical short tacking and experienced boat handling.
For the upcoming race, competitors can expect significantly calmer tidal conditions due to the neap tide phase. This should provide fairer and more tactical racing, allowing crews to focus more on boat speed, positioning, and sail handling rather than simply battling the current.
With lessons learned from the opening round and improving conditions ahead, the national squib fleet is hoping for stronger participation and a full day of competitive Squib racing on the river.

About skybird series
The Skybird Series was created to encourage consistent club racing, seamanship, tactical river sailing, and the development of local keelboat sailors in Malaysia.
Raced on the tidal waters of Pulau Indah, the series is known for challenging conditions where tide, wind shifts, and boat handling all play important roles. Unlike handicap racing, the one-design Squib format places emphasis purely on sailing skill, teamwork, and tactics.
Today, PSC proudly hosts Malaysia’s only recognised National Squib fleet outside the UK and organises the Malaysian Squib National Championship annually.
The Skybird Series continues to grow as a friendly but competitive racing platform for sailors of all backgrounds, helping strengthen keelboat racing and sailing culture in Malaysia.
