About The Beruang Sailing Club
Sailing for children aged 8 to 17
The Beruang Sailing Club (BSC) was established by PSC in early 2024 as a separate club with its own membership, leadership, and dedicated junior sailing programme. Currently starting with a core group of eight junior members, BSC is modeled loosely on the Corinthian Otter Sailing Club in Burnham-on-Crouch, aiming to foster a strong foundation for youth sailing.
Located in a clean and safe sailing area between two pontoons, BSC offers an ideal environment for beginners. The area is actively patrolled by instructors in kayaks, supported by a safety boat on standby. Beyond sailing, there’s ample space for recreational activities such as basketball and games, though active parental involvement is needed to manage these effectively.
While several Squib boat owners have children participating in BSC, the vision of fully integrating junior sailing alongside parents sailing Squibs—or relaxing in the air-conditioned clubhouse—is still evolving. The club remains committed to building a vibrant, family-inclusive sailing culture on Pulau Indah.
As a non-member, you’re welcome to join us once for free to experience what PSC has to offer. After that, you may participate up to five more times for a certain fee per session. Following these sessions, you’ll need to decide whether you’d like to become a member and fully join our sailing community.
For members of affiliated clubs such as the Royal Selangor Yacht Club, Royal Port Dickson Yacht Club, and Changi Sailing Club Singapore, you’re welcome to join us once for free. After that, you may sail with us up to 10 times for a certain fee per session. Beyond these visits, we kindly ask that you decide whether you’d like to become a member of PSC.Â
PSC offers a two-tier membership structure:
Full Membership is available to boat owners and includes voting rights and full access to club privileges.
Associate Membership is for non-boat owners who still wish to actively participate in club life.
Â
In addition, the club offers reduced-cost membership options for:
Junior and Cadet Members
Individuals on lower incomes (individual decision by Committee)
Â
These categories ensure that sailing remains accessible and inclusive, and that everyone—regardless of age or means—can be part of the club.
Please note that club membership supports PSC operations but does not directly fund the Club’s Academy.
Junior Sailing Programme – Come Sail With Us!
Set in the beautiful, clean waters of Pulau Indah, our Junior Sailing Programme offers young people the chance to connect with nature, learn valuable skills, and develop a lifelong passion for sailing. Surrounded by unspoiled natural beauty, the programme combines adventure, education, and fun in a safe and supportive environment.
Who Can Join?
We offer two tailored programmes based on age:
Ages 8 to 14:
Young sailors are introduced to sailing in small groups to ensure close guidance, safety, and personal attention. Parental involvement is welcome, but we focus on encouraging teamwork and independence among participants.Ages 15 to 17:
Older teens can join our more advanced training programme using Laser 2 boats—double-handed dinghies ideal for building speed, teamwork, and technical skills. This course is perfect for teens seeking a more dynamic and challenging sailing experience.Â
Our Boats
Optimist Dinghies – Perfect for beginners aged 8 to 14.
Byte-class Single-Handers – For more advanced younger sailors building solo confidence.
Laser 2 Dinghies – Used for the 15–17 age group, ideal for developing competitive skills and advanced techniques in a two-person crew setting.
