Race One
Acting Race Officer Jeremy set a course involving a laid mark on the south shore and the yellow beacon on the north shore.
An ebbing tide helped the competitors to what eventually became the windward mark, a yellow marker buoy. Racing down the river saw a number of place changes, with boats starting on the southern shore doing better than those on the north shore.
Boats on the south shore, including Alice, Second Wind, Recca 2 and Jerry, did well, with Cabaret 7 on the north shore finding they had to make a long track to cross the river.
After numerous place changes, Alice rounded first, followed by Second Wind, Sky Bird, Jerry and Cabaret 7. Recca 2, who had showed good speed up to that point, suffered damage and retired.
The first reach across to the beacon saw a few place changes. Likewise, the run back to the buoy. After a second round, the fleet headed home with spinnakers raised.
Race One Finishing Order
- Alice
- Second Wind
- Sky Bird
- Jerry
- Cabaret 7
Race Two
After a race of around an hour, the Race Officer decided on a second race with the buoy as the turning mark.
Cabaret 7 led over the line, establishing what seemed a good lead with Sky Bird behind but to windward. The same long and negative short tack made judging the mark complex and difficult to judge, with less wind inshore too.
Cabaret called starboard on Sky Bird tacking back. Cabaret was surprised to find Alice coming in from the north shore on starboard and crossing ahead.
Order Around the Mark
- Alice
- Cabaret 7
- Sky Bird
- Jerry
- Second Wind
The fleet headed home on a broad reach with Alice and Jerry hoisting spinnakers, which proved more effective than Sky Bird, Second Wind and Cabaret without.
Sky Bird sailed through Cabaret, with Jerry under spinnaker passing both.
Overall Results

Looking Ahead
Great racing and six more competitive crews are expected to join for the championship, indicating it should be a great regatta befitting the largest one-design keelboat fleet in Malaysia.
